The first step of cleaning a water dispenser is to unplug the power supply. This step is critically important because if you forget to remove the plug, you might get harmed. So, don’t forget to remove the power supply. After that, make sure to drain the water. There is some water stored in the reservoir even after the bottle is empty. So, make sure the reservoir is empty before you start with the cleaning job.

2. Remove the components

The next step is to remove all the parts of the water dispenser. It may include the water bottle, lid, and baffle. The baffle is a blue or white funnel or disk-like part placed over the reservoir. Don’t forget to wash them with a normal detergent and let them dry.

3. Clean the reservoir

Now it’s time to clean the reservoir. Three types of solutions can be used to clean the reservoir:

  • Vinegar Solution: For this method, you will need to mix 1/3 gallon of vinegar to 1 gallon of water. You can also add 2 table spoons of lemon juice to reduce the strong and pungent vinegar smell.
  • Bleach Solution: the recipe for the bleach cleaning solution is similar to that of vinegar solution. You need to mix 1 spoon of bleach with 1 gallon of water. DO NOT ADD MORE THAN ONE SPOON OF BLEACH FOR ONE GALLON OF WATER. Bleach is a harsh chemical and over usage can damage your water dispenser.
  • Store-Bought Solution: other than vinegar and bleach solution, you can also store-bought cleaning solution to clean the dispenser. However, don’t forget to check the ingredients as some cleaning chemicals are not recommended for cleaning food and drinks appliances. The best way is to ask your water dispenser supplier for recommendations of a cleaning solution.

Now that you know about the types of water dispenser cleaning solutions, you must be what to do with this cleaning solution?

Well, it is easy!! All you need to do is pour the cleaning solution into the reservoir and let it rest for at least 5 minutes. You can leave it for more time as well. After that, push the cold water dispense button and drain the solution into an empty bucket.

If you have a hot and cold water dispenser, make another cleaning solution and repeat the step for the hot water dispense button as well.

4. Rinse the reservoir

The next step is to rinse your reservoir. Fill your reservoir with clean tap water and drain it through the water dispense button. You will need to repeat this step 3 to 4 times to completely clean the reservoir and make sure there is no residue of the cleaning solution left in the reservoir.

Repeat the step for the hot water dispense button as well if you have a hot and cold water dispenser.

This step is not necessary and you can skip it if you want. Unscrew the taps and wash them with regular detergent and rinse them thoroughly. You can also use a damp cloth to clean them.
